The aesthetic theory known as "suspension of disbelief" refers to the willingness of an audience to accept what is presented-no matter the impossibility of the circumstance as absolute truth. In this juried show presented by Cairo Gallery, the exhibiting artists were presented with a shared title (in this case, Suspension of Disbelief) and then challenged to work within these parameters to compose work capable of creating their own "truth". What emerges from this group oof photographers, sculptors, and painters is a delicous amalgamation of interpretation; ranging from faux-fruit (complete with mold) to photographs that could have been extracted from the cerebral cortex during REM sleep. The works are not linked through compulsory devices; instead subtle threads of recognition coolly connected and provide a truly satisfying visual feast.
The upcoming show Suspension of Disbelief will be held at Cairo Gallery from February 27th through March 8th.
